GUIDELINES FOR EXHIBITION PROPOSALS AND USE OF APOTHIKI

A. General policy
The Apothiki Art Center is, as a »centre for the living art and the art of living«, interested in all contemporary, critical and conceptual projects in any given medium. The Apothiki remains committted to run a programme that includes exhibitions, performances, films and video screenings, conferences and seminars and publications. Apothiki also wishes to keep a balanced program with support for Paros based artists and international presence on the island. Therefore the Apothiki invites all interested candidates to submit proposals which are in line with the goals of the Centre.
• REQUESTS
In order to handle requests swiftly, the Apothiki needs to see visual material in support of the proposals/requests:
• electronic or hard copy pictures of the work in the exhibition
  • concept and rationale for the exhibition (max.one A4 page)
  • plans for any writing or publication associated with the exhibition
  • current cv material on the participants
  • preferences for dates, length of period, space needed etc
B. Site description
1. Technical information sheet - Apothiki main building

surface: 130m² inside (one large room of 72m² / 5 meter high ceiling - reception/kitchen area (30m²) & office area (30m²). Fully airconditioned.
•
exhibition space: all spaces can be used for wallmounted exhibitions.
•
roof terrace and garden: 110m² on 2 levels, accessible from inside Apothiki main building. Not for daytime use (Summer). Exhibition of sculptures possible. Roof receptions and dinners possible.
•
exhibition/walls: 50 meters of walls are available for exhibition purposes
•
kitchen/reception capacity: kitchen with two small fridges, dishwasher and microwave capacity present
•
chairs available (100) - Capacity main building 90
•
bathroom facilities: shower/toilet etc
•
insurance: Apothiki is insured, to a certain extend, for third party damage, fire and water damage. All additional insurances for art pieces etc is at the expense and responsability of the contracting party.
•
all events and use of apothiki will be on a contractual basis.

C. How can you use the Apothiki?

The Gallery plans a series of exhibitions in cooperation with artists, galleries and (international) cultural organisations.

Besides scheduled exhibitions curated by Apothiki, individual artists, organisations or galleries can make use of the gallery space for following purposes: All proposals subject to written and contractual approval.
The following 4 options are available:
 
1. Space hire:
  An artist or gallery can rent the Apothiki for an exhibition or other event for a limited period of time. (from 1 day to 2 weeks) Exhibitions or events have to be in line with Apothiki policy and approved by management.
  Practical modalities can be discussed on a case by case basis. Sufficient visual information and other background information of applying artist or organisation has to be provided with application form. The Apothiki will not charge any commission on sold works.
2. Cultural events:
  For specific cultural events (concerts/poetry/art workshops/receptions), the Apothiki can be hired for a limited period of time.
3. Conference Facility
  The Apothiki is fully equiped to host a professional conference for up to 90 people. A Conference table is available (8 meters by 2,5) and can be provide in smaller 'versions' if needed. Assistance in lodging and catering can be provided. An Apothiki assisting staff member can be made available when needed for conference assistance.
4. Artist in Residence programme
 
In off-season, the Apothiki can be rented by individual artist or art organisations to work and exhibit in the Apothiki. Accomodation is possible in Apothiki center for up to 2 people. Additional or sperate accomodation can be provided in the immediate vincinity of the Apothiki or other places on the island. Applications will be answered within 6 weeks time. A list of different types of accomodation can be provided upon request.
  Apothiki can also assist participants of the Residence Programme to connect with the local Paros art scene.

If you are applying for grants to any funding body, or where sponsorship is being sought, permission to use the name of the Apothiki must be requested and approved. Possible media coverage of events organised in the Apothiki has to be announced and discussed prior to the event.
D. Rates:
Prices include full use of facilities and utilities:(needs to be specified by applicant)
• April 1st - June 15 th and September 15 ? April 1: 600 Euro per week (for conferences and short
events: 150 Euro/day// 200 Euro weekend Sat/Sun)
• June 15 th September 15: 1000 Euro per week (for conferences and short
events: 200 Euro /day// 300 Euro weekend Sat/Sun)
 
• Mode of payment:
Booking is confirmed after acceptance and payment of 50 % non refundable deposit. Balance has to reach us 2 months prior to use of space.
